GOSHEN - Galen I. Johns, 92, of Goshen, died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 5, 2012, in his home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1920, to Ira S. and Elizabeth (Rickert) Johns in Clinton Township, Elkhart County.
He was a pastor, conference secretary, teacher, and school principal. He also worked part-time as a self-employed installer of heating, air conditioning and electricity.
He was a member of College Mennonite Church.
He married Edith Mae Hoover on May 16, 1943, at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. She died Feb. 5, 2009. He married Areta Graber Lehman on Jan. 30, 2010, in Goshen. She survives.
Also surviving are his children Steven (Debra) Johns of Goshen, Lois (Jim) Kaufmann of New Paris, Loren (Rachel) Johns of Goshen and Lindale (Melanie) Johns of Benton; daughter-in-law Jeanette Johns of Mecosta, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; son Joe Alan Johns in 2003; daughter Rachel Nanlee in 1954; six sisters, Vivian Schlabach, Vera Stutzman, Vesta Kauffman, Miriam Wyse, Mary Birkey and Pauline Horst; and one brother, Daniel Johns.
He was the last living member of his immediate family.
He attended both Eastern Mennonite High School and Goshen College.
He served in Civilian Public Service at Sidling Hill, Pa.
He was ordained as a minister on Jan. 25, 1948. Later that year he went through the lot a second time and was selected to be the first pastor at Benton Mennonite Church. He served for one year as interim pastor at Ninth Street Mennonite Church in Saginaw, Mich.
He was later ordained as a bishop and served as the first pastor at Bonneyville Mennonite Church, Bristol.
He taught and was principal at Clinton Christian Day School for a number of years and was pastor at Erb Street Mennonite Church in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, for 6 and a half years.
He served for many years as secretary and later Executive Secretary and Conference Minister of Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference and for two years as moderator of the Ontario Mennonite Conference and the inter-Mennonite conference that later became Mennonite Church Eastern Canada. Gifted in vocal music, he organized and led numerous church choirs and taught many people around the church how to sing, how to read music, and how to sing solfeggio (the "do-re-mi's").
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, in the Gathering Room at College Mennonite Church, Goshen. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at the church. The Revs. Brenda Meyer and Rosemary Widmer will lead the service.
Galen chose to donate his body to Indiana University Medical Center for research.

Johns, Galen Ira, 92, of Goshen, IN died August 5 2012 at the same place, from cancer.
He was born February 26, 1920 in Clinton Township, Elkhart County, IN to Ira Samuel and Elizabeth (Rickert) Johns. Ira was born July 10, 1879 and died June 27, 1956. Elizabeth was born January 26, 1877 and died August 7 1960.
On May 16 1943, at Goshen, IN he was married to Edith Mae Hoover, who was born May 1, 1923 and died February 5, 2009. He married Areta Graber Lehman on January 30, 2010, in Goshen. She was born August 21, 1922 and survives.
Surviving are children: Jeanette Johns (daughter-in-law); Steven (Debra), Lois (Jim) Kaufmann, Loren (Rachel), and Lindale (Melanie), 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
A son, Joe Alan, (2003); a daughter, Rachel Nanlee (1954); and his siblings: Vivian Schlabach, Vera Stutzman, Vesta Kauffman, Miriam Wyse, Mary Birkey, Pauline Horst, and Daniel Johns preceded him in death.
He was a long-time pastor, conference secretary, school teacher, and principal.
Memorial services were held August 10, 2012 at College Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN.

BRISTOL - Carolyn E. Jones, 58, died at her home Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2012, after a three week illness.
She was born in Bremen July 15, 1954, to Reuben and Lydia (Burkholder) Miller. She married J.L. "Casey" Jones September 1983 at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church.
He survives along with her mother of Nappanee; stepdaughter Tammy (Tim) Rock of Nappanee; stepson Rusty (Alicia) Jones of Elkhart; five stepgrandchildren; sister Cheryl (Lee) Bontrager of Nappanee; brother Jerry Miller of Nappanee; niece Yvonne (Keith) Pasqualone of Elkhart; and two great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She was an avid reader and loved walking on the beach.
Mrs. Jones worked in shipping at Bentler Automotive and was a member of Elijah's Fire International Church.
In keeping with Carolyn's wishes, her body will be cremated.
Friends may call from 1 until the 2 p.m. memorial service Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Karin Baker, Elijah's Fire International Church, will officiate.

Lee and Adella served as missionaries in Japan from 1951-1973. Lee pastored a Japanese church near Washington DC until his retirement in 1986. Lee wrote two books: "A Pilgrim's Journey, Remembering My Amish Roots" and "A Pilgrim's Journey II, Following God's Call to Japan".

Anna will be greatly missed by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Almeda and John Mark Yoder, of Gordonville, and Betty and Richard Esh, of Morgantown, where she lived for the past six years; six grandchildren, John (Rachal) Yoder, Anne (Lucas) Hilty, Sara (Jason) Hurst, Kendra (Jonathan) Gascho, Karla (Jamie) Weaver, and Kevin (Sarah) Esh; six great-grandchildren, Auralie, Judah, and Ethan Yoder, Bryce and Josiah Gascho, and Tessalyn Weaver; and a foster son, Bert Nestlerode, married to Carol Nestlerode, of Ephrata. She is also survived by a sister, Ruth Smoker, of Atglen.
She was preceded in death by a brother, David, and three sisters, Alma Engle, Sarah Kauffman, and Esther Glick.

GOSHEN - Evelyn Maxine Hostetler Kauffman, 85, passed away late Wednesday evening, July 4, 2012, at IU Health Goshen Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
She was born Sept. 18, 1926, to Early and Bertha (Mishler) Hostetler in Topeka. She married Frank Kauffman at Emma Mennonite Church June 21, 1947. They had just celebrated their 65th anniversary.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Pat (Danny) Yoder and Maryann (Ron) Shultz, both of Goshen; four grandsons, Rob (Sara) Yoder of Goshen, Sam (Nicole) Shultz of Bryan, Ohio, Matt (Becky) Shultz of Goshen and Derek Shultz of Fort Myers, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary, Ella and Ava Yoder, Abigail, Hannah and Mallory Shultz, and Hailey and Joslyn Shultz; and a brother, Walter Hostetler of LaGrange.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas Shultz; and three brothers, Kenneth, Leland and Wayne Hostetler.
She grew up in Emmatown, graduating from Shipshewana in 1944, and attended Goshen College for a year. After graduating from high school she was employed as a bookkeeper at Gospel Book Store and later at Provident Bookstore. She later worked at Farm Bureau Credit Union in various positions and retired as vice president of operations. In retirement, she served as FBCU internal auditor.
She was a member of Waterford Mennonite Church, past president of Elkhart County Extension Homemakers and a member of the Busy Bee Extension Homemakers Club for 50 years. She was a past board member of Church Women United and an officer of Credit Women International.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Yoder Culp Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Waterford Mennonite Church, with Pastor Neil Amstutz officiating.
A private burial will be in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery.

GOSHEN - Harvey H. Kauffman, 79, of Goshen, died at 6:16 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Greencroft Health Care Center. He had been in declining health battling cancer.
He was born March 12, 1933, in Hydro, Okla., to Henry and Mary Ann (Stutzman) Kauffman. On March 1, 1953, in White Pigeon, Mich., he married Fannie Irene Herschberger. She died Feb. 22, 2009.
Surviving are children Gayle (Ron) Kohlmeyer of Bristol, Sonja Neal of Middlebury, Rick (Ruth) Kauffman of North Adams, Mich. and Darwin (Susie) Kauffman of Millersburg; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Clara Gingerich of Iowa City, Iowa; and brother Jacob (Jean) Kauffman of Kalona, Iowa.
He was preceded by a son, Michael Kauffman, two grandsons, Matthew and Malachi Kauffman, three sisters and two brothers.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main Street, Middlebury. The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday Dec. 1, 2012, at First Mennonite Church, Middlebury. Burial is in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.

Janet was a founding member of Neffsville Mennonite Church, where she was active in the leadership of the children's educational program and the women's sewing circle.
Survived by two children, Mary Ellen Martin (Willard) and Richard (Suzanne); one brother, Robert Byler (Ruth); four grandchildren, Stefan Martin, Chris Kauffman Weaver, Jeremy Kauffman, and Derek Martin; and six great grandchildren.
A Viewing was Saturday July 14, 2012, in the West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes. Interment followed in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery Lancaster, PA. A Memorial service was Monday, July 16, 2012 at Neffsville Mennonite Church, Neffsville, PA.

Kauffman, Janet Arlene Byler, 90, of Lititz, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania died July 9, 2012 at the same place from congestive heart failure.
She was born July 20, 1921 at Gap, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Jesse J. and Elsie Mae (Kauffman) Byler. Jesse was born August 22, 1895 and died February 25, 1980. Elsie was born June 19, 1898 and died May 6, 1967.
On September 28, 1940 at Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania she was married to Ammon S. Kauffman, was born March 26, 1918 and died September 7, 2009.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ellen Martin (Willard), a son, Richard Kauffman (Suzanne), four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a brother, Robert Byler (Ruth).
A great-grandson, Owen Garrett Martin (stillborn) preceded her in death.
She was a founding member of Neffsville Mennonite Church

John was baptized in the East Union Mennonite Church in his youth and was a lifelong member, serving in a variety of capacities. He graduated from Iowa Mennonite School and attended Hesston College. John served in PAX in Paraguay, South America for three years as a mechanic.
On March 28, 1964 he was united in marriage to Loretta Miller at the East Union Mennonite Church. On March 28, 2009 John suffered a stroke that left him dependent on care from Loretta.
Survivors include his wife Loretta of Iowa City, four daughters and spouses, Karleen (Dean) Uitermark of Story City, IA, Marina (Gene) Davis of Powell, WY, LaDonna (Steve) Abbott of Jones, OK, Jonette (Troy) Kemling of Grant, NE, 13 grandchildren, Hannah, Abigail, Samuel, Rebekah, Rodney, Desiree, Ree, Alyssa, Tyler, Ryan, Ashley, Emily and Nathan. Also surviving is one brother, Nyle (Lauralee) Kauffman of Iowa City.
A celebration of life was held September 2, 2012 at the East Union Mennonite Church with Pastor Jay Miller officiating. Burial was in the East Union Cemetery.

GOSHEN - Maxine Kauffman, 87, peacefully passed away to her heavenly home Thursday morning, Oct. 11, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born in Goshen on March 9, 1925, to Alvin and Alma (Showalter) Kauffman.
She is survived by a brother, Dana (Carol) Kauffman of Millersburg; a sister, Gladys (James) Hershberger of Goshen; and nine nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Jennie (Ralph) Pletcher and Loa Miller.
She attended Clinton Community School, Millersburg High School, Goshen College and three summers at Ball State University.
Her teaching included 36 years at Millersburg Elementary, a year with Navajo Indians in New Mexico and Arizona and three summers at Laurelville Mennonite Camp.
The enjoyment of volunteer service led her to Meals on Wheels, Oaklawn Auxiliary, IN-MI Mennonite Conference, Mennonite Mission Network and Greencroft Caring Friends.
Nature, quilting, music and mission outreach were among her interests.
Maxine was a life-long member of Clinton Brick Mennonite Church.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, in Clinton Brick Cemetery, followed by a 10:30 a.m. memorial service at Clinton Brick Mennonite Church. The Rev. Dave Hathaway will officiate.

BARTLESVILLE, Okla.
- Wilfred Joseph (Will) Kaufman died on January 17, 2012 at Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be held at the Allen Township Cemetery, Carlisle, Iowa on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Joseph W. Kaufman officiating. Family and friends will gather at the Peterson-Richardson Funeral Home in Carlisle, 415 School Street, at 1:00 p.m. prior to the services.
Will was born June 28, 1920 in Havelock, Iowa to Joseph and Mattie Kennel Kaufman. He spent his childhood years on the family farm and attended the Havelock Public Schools graduating with the Havelock Consolidated High School class of 1941. He attended college on a football scholarship at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa receiving a Bachelor of Science degree on June 2, 1947. Later, Will received a Masters of Arts degree in education from the State University of Iowa, Iowa City, on June 9, 1950. He received a Permanent Professional Certificate from the State of Iowa Board of Public Instruction on July 1, 1955 and was named a lifetime member of the National Education Association in May 1957.
Will completed additional courses at Drake University (Des Moines), the University of Northern Iowa (Cedar Falls), and Iowa State University (Ames). He began his teaching career at West Bend and served as high school principal at Hawarden, Lytton and Manson, Iowa. During his last 14 years of teaching he was the high school guidance counselor within the Manson Community Schools. Will's passion was treating faculty and students fairly and ensuring that students received an excellent education that would prepare them for entrance to college and careers. He often went the extra mile to help students attend college where circumstances might have prevented them from doing so.
While attending Morningside College, Will met Patricia Ann (Pat) Foulke. Pat received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Morningside, graduating cum laude on May 31, 1948. On May 29, 1949 Will and Pat were married in the living room of Pat's family home in Carlisle, Iowa, 500 School Street. In 1987 Will and Pat moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to be close to their only son, Joe, his wife Sheryl and their greatly loved granddaughter, Shelly. Will was a member of the Manson Mennonite Church until his move to Bartlesville, where he joined First United Methodist Church and later Grace Community Church.
Will is survived by a sister, Bernice Johnson of Minier, Illinois, son Joe Kaufman and his wife Sheryl of Bartlesville, and granddaughter Shelly and her husband Jesse Buffington of Houston. His parents preceded him in death, as did his wife Pat who died Sept. 20, 2000, two sisters, Marcille Davidhizer and Marie Kaufman and two brothers, Ralph Kaufman and Wayne Kaufman. Memorials may be sent to the Will and Pat Kaufman Scholarship Fund, Hesston College, Box 3000, Hesston, KS 67062.
Funeral services and interment were under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

She was born June 30, 1935 at Sellersville, Bucks Co., PA to Marvin S. and Fannie F. (Landis) Keller. Marvin was born (no date given) and died December 1, 1940. Fannie was born February 23, 1913 and died January 31 1998.
Surviving are a brother, Arden L. Keller & wife, Shirley, and a sister, Gloria L. Moyer & husband, Stanley.
A brother, Robert L. Keller preceded her in death.

Don was a member and Sunday school teacher at the former St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Lancaster. He later attended Willow Street Mennonite Church. Don served in the US Coast Guard.

MIFFLINBURG - Paul High Kilmer, 79, of 12901 Old Turnpike Road, formerly of Lancaster and Snyder County, entered into rest at 1:47 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at his residence surrounded by family. Paul moved from Lancaster County to Snyder County in 1968 where he resided for 36 years before moving to Mifflinburg in 2004.
He was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Earl Township, Lancaster County, the son of the late Ezra Z. Kilmer and Ada (High) Kilmer. On Aug. 30, 1952, he married the former Naomi King Zook, who survives. On Aug. 30th, they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
While residing in Lancaster County, Paul drove portable hammer mill for C. P. Wenger of Ephrata, and drove tractor trailer truck for Weavers Poultry of New Holland. After moving to Snyder County, he operated a small dairy farm. He also worked as a carpenter, delivered camping trailers for Thor Industries of Middleburg and Cite Air, drove a delivery route for R. L. Hackman Distributors, Lewisburg, and hauled produce for local farmers to the Buffalo Valley Produce Auction.
Paul was a faithful member of Millmont Mennonite Church since 1968, where he served as an usher and custodian.
He enjoyed gardening, puzzles, reading, sewing comfort tops and school kit bags for the sewing circle.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon L. and Elsie Kilmer, of Shippensburg, and Lloyd Z. and Brenda Kilmer, of Mifflinburg; two daughters and son-in-law; Evelyn F. Martin, of Millmont, and Lois A. and Glenn Ranck, of Cochranville, 12 grandchildren, Bradley Kilmer, Shannon Kilmer, Carla Kilmer Martin, Daniel Kilmer, Rhonda Martin, Tammi Kilmer, Jacinda Kilmer, Steven Kilmer, Bernice Kilmer, Sophia Ranck, Saleena Kilmer, Annika Ranck; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ezra and Ella Kilmer Jr., of Ephrata, and Ephraim and Lydia Kilmer, of Penn-Yan, N.Y.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Erma and Irvin Frey, of Mount Forrest, Ontario, and Lena and Clarence Martin, of Middlebury, Ind.; and one brother-in-law, Cyrus Kulp, of Auburn, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Martin; one sister, Edna Kilmer Kulp; one son-in-law, Lloyd Martin; and one brother, Floyd Kilmer.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Millmont Mennonite Church, 1300 Millmont Road, where the funeral will be conducted at 10 with Jonathan Schmidt, Nathan Reiff, Roy Longenecker, David Swartzentruber, and Lewis Hoover, officiating ministers.
Interment will be in the Millmont Mennonite Church Cemetery.

On December 18, 1943 at Doylestown, PA he was married to Florence M. Landes, who was born December 17, 1921 and survives.

Orie graduated from Eastern Mennonite School in 1941. He served in Civilian Public Service, 1944-46. He was a founding board member of Plumstead Christian School. Was involved in church planting at Easton Mennonite Church for 25 years.

She was born July 4, 1922 at Paoli, Chester Co., PA to Harry Good and Myrtle Maynard (Haldeman) Brackbill. Harry was born October 7, 1892 and died December 7, 1966. Myrtle was born July 29, 1893 and died January 22, 1982.
On April 5, 1942 at Frazer, Chester Co., PA she was married to Emery Daniel King, who was born June 12, 1922 and died September 12, 1998.
Surviving are children, Harry, m. to Marge Hertzler; Ralph, m. to Brenda Hummel; Lois, m. to David Huston; David, m to Deb Glick; and Daniel, m. to Laurie King; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.
Three sisters, Esther Brackbill (infant); Myrtle Brackbill (infant); and Gertrude Hartshaw, and a granddaughter, Mary Lynn King preceded her in death.
She graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School and was instrumental in the operation of the Frazer Summer Bible School and the Marsh Hill Summer Bible School. She helped to start Mountain View Mennonite Fellowship in Bodines, PA

Lois King 1931-2012
Lois I. King, 80, of Bluffton, Ohio, died May 21, 2012, in Ft. Myers, Fla. She was born in Richland Township on July 27, 1931, to Harley and Lavina (Burkholder) Marquart.
She and her husband, Paul, were married on Oct. 11, 1952, at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Timothy P. (Dawn) King, Bluffton, and John E. King of Florida. Five grandchildren also survive: Harley King, Zachary King, Cody King, Jennifer King and Justin King.
Preceding her in death was a son, Bruce M. King, and a sister, Phyllis (Donald) Yaussy.
Mrs. King was the third-ever Bluffton High School homecoming queen (fall of 1948), and a 1949 Bluffton High School graduate. She graduated from Bluffton College. She was a housewife, and served many years as secretary of Mennonite Mutual Aid Society, Bluffton, until her retirement. She was a member of First Mennonite Church, Bluffton.
A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m., Sunday Sept. 23, at First Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Steven Yoder will officiate. Friends may greet the family following the service. Mrs. King was cremated.

Leonard Deal Kingsley, 95, died at 9:20 a.m., June 5, 2012, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born in LaGrange County, Indiana, to Ray S. and Mertie (Deal) Kingsley.
On Sept. 1, 1940, he married Velma K. Emmert and she survives.
Mr. Kingsley worked as an educator (teacher and school administrator) most of his life. He retired as superintendent of Penta-County Vocational High School, Rossford, Ohio, in 1987.
His career in education included teaching biology and Vocational Agriculture in Brighton, Indiana, and Berne-French Township High School, Indiana, and a three-year term establishing an agricultural school in Timor, Indonesia, under the auspices of Mennonite Central Committee.
Following retirement he served as Wood County Commissioner project coordinator, and engaged in several of his life-long interests.
He graduated from Kendallville High School, Indiana. He furthered his education at Purdue University, Ball State and the University of Toledo University, earning a doctoral degree in education. A licensed pilot, he often commuted to school by plane.
Other significant involvements included long-time membership in Rotary Club and service as an international visitor host. His avid international interest was expressed in regular reading of several daily newspapers and wide-ranging travel which included visits on six continents.
Along with his wife, Velma, he was a long-term member of Sylvania (Ohio) United Church of Christ. They are presently members of First Mennonite Church, Bluffton.
Survivors also include six sons., Phillip (Judith) Kingsley and Mitchell (Ann) Kingsley both of Bluffton; Keith (Gretchen) Kingsley and Karl (Karen) Kingsley both of Elkhart, Ind.; Matthew Kingsley of Lone Pine, Calif. and Frederick (Craig) Kingsley of Pewaukee, Wisc.; two daughters Sue Ellen (Terry Kinzel) Kingsley of Hancock, Mich., Jane Steinmetz of Bluffton.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Thola North; brother, Leon Kingsley; and two sons-in-law Mark Steinmetz and Marc Troyer.

Mrs. Knicely was born Sept. 14, 1935, in Dayton, and was a daughter of the late John S. and Anna Mae Martin Rohrer Sr.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Mount Pleasant Mennonite Church.
On Oct. 18, 1956, she married Amos S. Knicely, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Lewis S. Knicely of Dayton and Mary Ethel Heatwole of Elkton; three brothers, Glen E. Rohrer, Wilbur M. Rohrer and Israel H. Rohrer, all of Dayton; a sister Orpha M. Wenger of Harrisonburg; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grand children.

Evelyn L. Krehbiel, 86, of Bluffton died at 9:20 pm February 22, 2012 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. She was born September 17, 1925 in Danvers, IL to Harvey Ebersole and Alma Ruth Hostetler Nunemaker. On August 30, 1947 she married Howard E. Krehbiel and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1999.
The daughter of a Mennonite minister, Evelyn attended school in Comins, MI and Tiskilwa, IL and graduated from High School in Donnellson, IA in 1943. While in Donnellson, she met Howard. She worked for a time at the Schaeffer Pen Company in Ft. Madison, IA before attending Bluffton College and graduating in 1948. Howard and Evelyn lived for a time in Chicago, and Zion, IL before moving to Niles, MI, where their first child was born. Later they moved to Mt. Pleasant, IA and then Austin, TX, before returning to Bluffton, OH in 1970. They designed and built their home there in 1972. Evelyn loved writing, and was editor of the Central District Reporter, a publication of the Mennonite Church Central District, for 17 years. She and Howard also worked for many years in the Bluffton College Archives, which Evelyn enjoyed because of her interest in genealogy. Evelyn enjoyed writing poetry, and was a member of a local writers' group. She was active in her church activities at First Mennonite in Bluffton, and loved beautiful things - art, music, and nature. She spent many enjoyable hours breeding daylilies, and shared many plants with others. Evelyn had many warm relationships with family and friends, and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include two daughters, Annette Hilty of Bluffton, Connie (Bill) Nunemaker of Shevlin, MN, two sons, Jon (Beth) Krehbiel of Nashville, TN, Steve (Galen) Krehbiel of Vancouver, BC, 15 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and sister Mary Ann (Clarence) Kooker of Bluffton.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the First Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Rev. Louise Wideman will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton. Visitation will be from 2-6 pm Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Howard E. and Evelyn Nunemaker Krehbiel Scholarship at Bluffton University or First Mennonite Church.

Wilbert David Kropf, 88, of Harrisburg died Wednesday of age-related causes.
He was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Shelbyville, Ill., to Ezra and Ida (Eash) Kropf.
He married Elva Miller on Feb. 24, 1946, in Middlebury, Ind.
He completed junior high school. He was involved in farming most of his life. He owned and operated his own farm near Harrisburg. He was ordained to the ministry in the Mennonite Church. During his ministry, he assisted in various congregations while faithfully serving his home congregation at Harris-burg for 57 years.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years; sons Larry Kropf and wife Beulah of Cove, Leland Kropf and wife Christina of Harrisburg, and James Kropf and wife Maria of Harrisburg; daughters Edith Patzan and husband José of Harrisburg, and Mary Lee Kreider and husband Curvin of Squaw Valley, Calif.; 33 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Evelyn Kropf in 1997, daughter Martha Birky in 1999, son Sam Kropf in 1981 and grandson Douglas Birky in 1993.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Harrisburg Mennonite Church. A funeral ser-vice followed by burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Halsey Mennonite Church, 910 E. 1st St., in Halsey. Burial will be at Alford Cemetery.
Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City is handling arrangements. Remembrances can be made to Christian Aid Ministries (Bibles for China).

Harold was predeceased by his wife Almeda, and his children Roy (1970) and Joanne (1977), father-in-law and mother-in-law Daniel R. and Veronica Albrecht, and sister-in-law Muriel and Aaron S. Kuepfer.
The funeral service was Dec. 8, 2012 at Morningview Amish Mennonite Church, Newton, ON. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

BREMEN - Roman L. Kuhns, 75, of Bremen, died Wednesday morning, June 20, 2012, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.
He was born July 11, 1936, to Levi J. and Elizabeth Hershberger Kuhns in Kosciusko County. He married Martha Plank on Feb. 21, 1961. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2011.
Mr. Kuhns was a farmer and owner of Kuhn's Orchard.
Surviving are his sons, Ivan Ray (Norma) and LaMar R. (Lorene), both of Bremen, Levi Jay (Mary) of Shipshewana and Homer R. (Clara) of Plymouth; daughters Rosetta Kuhns of Bremen, Lorene (Darrell) Borkholder and Carol (Paul) Graber, both of Nappanee, Esther (Devon) Schwartz of Etna Green and Freida (Keith) Abbott of Sheridan, Ill.; 42 grandchildren; brothers Eli, Melvin, Alvin and Freeman; and sisters Malinda Miller, Edna Miller and Amanda Chupp.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today, June 21, 2012, and all day Friday, June 22, 2012, at the family residence. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Ronnie Miller residence, 1184 Third Road, Bremen.

MYERSTOWN - Eva Eberly Kurtz, 83, of 8 Pleasant Drive, died Friday, March 16, 2012, in her residence. She was the wife of the late Christian H. Kurtz, whom she married on February 10, 1951. She was born in East Earl Twp., Lancaster Co., a daughter of the late Martin M. and Minnie M. Martin Eberly. She was a member of the Weaverland Conference, Mt. Zion Mennonite Church, Myerstown.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Ivan, married to Erma (Stoltzfus) Kurtz of Honey Brook, Ruth, married to Martin Landis of Mechanicsburg, Lois, married to Wilmer Miller of McClure, and Walter, married to Mildred (Musser) Kurtz of Narvon; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; seven great-great grandchildren; and two step great-great grandchildren.
Joseph was the last of his immediate family. Preceding him in death are five brothers, three sisters, and a great grandchild.
Funeral service was August 26, 2012 at Garden Spot Village Chapel, New Holland, PA 17557 with the Reverend Ira Kurtz officiating. Interment was in the Conestoga Mennonite Cemetery Morgantown, PA.
